Question Will this CPU work with my Motherboard ?

Hello ! Currently i have sabertooth z77 motherboard with i7-3770K CPU.



my friend was upgrading motherboard and gave me his old CPU i7 6700k



from what i see this new CPU has same socket 1151 LGA but its not listed as compatible for my motherboard on their website. However, motherboard is not newest and i was thinking that maybe they are not updating compatible CPU's anymore.



Main questions

-will it work with my motherboard

-is it worth to change it ? (from what i read its not a big improvement but there is a little)

It is a significant performance boost but unfortunately you'd need a new motherboard. The 6700k would need a 6th or 7th generation chipset so that's z170 or z270 if you want overclocking support.

Since you are going go need DDR4 memory and a new motherboard, may as well contemplate 8th-gen or newer, or Ryzen.
