Will this fry my mobo

I heard that when using compressed air to blow out your computer you can fry the motherboard by spinning a fan the wrong way. In theory this would turn the fan into a generator shooting voltage back into my mobo. May be a stupid question but better safe than sorry. Thanks

I actually damaged my CPU fan this way before I found out about this. Just hold your finger in the middle of the fan (not in the fan blades) to keep it from spinning.

Theoretically, if you spin it fast enough and long enough, in the wrong direction, it may generate some voltage. Or overspeed the fan.

How to prevent?
Your finger. Or a toothpick. Don't let the fan spin when you blow the dust off.

But no, it won't 'fry the motherboard'.

It's better to remove the connector plugs for the fan while doing that.

Spinning the fan whether it hooked up to the mobo or not can still damage it from high RPMs. Best to just keep the fan from spinning.
