Will this processor work with this motherboard

Hello,
I'm new at all this so I don't necessarily know how to tell if the CPU I picked and the Motherboard are compatible

Motherboard; GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2 AM3 NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 630a chipset Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

CPU; 2.6GHz AMD Opteron 252 1000MHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 940 OSA252FAA5BL

no your motherboard is to nice, you'd have to get a processor that says that it's designed for socket am3 this one is for socket 940.

The Opteron 252 is an old model server chip. It would be interesting to see if you could even find one.

What you want is a modern desktop chip. Like one of the ones listed on the motherboard's CPU support list. http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3967#

The newest processors are at the top of the page. Just pick the best one that the budget allows. Once you've selected one, you can post back if you need further assistance.
