Hi!

I have a couple of new parts coming my way, and wanted to ask if the spare PSU I have will be enough to power it up without problems - it's a Corsair CX750M.

The specification is as follows:
- i7 4790k
- Asus z97 Pro gamer
- 2x R9 280x
- 4x2GB DDR3 HyperX Ram 1600Mhz
- Agility 3 SSD
- 4x WD Black 500 GB HDD

Thank You in Advance :)

Cheers!

I wouldn't suggest it. 750w is cutting it close and with the CX's capacitors issues. It would run it but I'd give it a month or 2 before it died. For 2 280xs I would suggest using a good 850w PSU. Depending on what exact model of card you are using a 280x can pull 250-300w by itself.

yes it will run but i wont Overclock coz the CX doesn't have very good capacitors how ever it wont die in 2 months lol i would give it a year at least

the 7970/R9280X with Tahiti XT will pull around 400~ ish watts in crossfire

the R9 280X with Tahiti XTL should pull around 380~ ish in Xfire so yah you should be fine pretty much lol

You are pushing the limit of your PSU, with the fans and CD-Rom you should upgrade the PSU also just to be safe...

I wouldnt recommend it either, you will push any 750w psu with 2 280x, trust me, i have them, i was in the same problem than you, you need either a really good 750w psu, or an average 850w. Recommended, and not expensive, 750w psu's would be the XFX xtr or EVGA g2.

Club 3D recommends a 750w PSU for just 1 of them, which imho is a bit excessive if you use a quality unit. They note a max power usage of 280w. I would suggest using a 850w unit(or larger). Get something from Seasonic, XFX, Antec, SuperFlower EVGA B2 and G2 s are good aswell. With Corsair you need to stick with their higher end units like the HX(i) and AX(i) and those are usually rather expensive.

You can trust the RealhardTechX site's recommendations. They maintain the most comprehensive power supply database on the internet.

Bignastyid is also correct in that a single 280X can pull a full 300 watts all by itself in certain circumstances. Generally that involves Furmark and Furmark is a bad idea for any card but the capability is there and it would only take a single bad driver for the card to say start pulling that in Crysis 3 or FC 4 or another high end game. Nvidia and AMD have both had a history of such drivers in the past.

Thank You for all the answers :)

Ehhh... I will try to run this with one 280x to see if the new parts are working, and will try to get a better PSU - any cheap recommendations ? 😀
