I currently have 8gb (2x4) of ram and since I do a lot of video editing I wanted to upgrade to at least 16gb of ram. I’m wondering if it’s possible to buy 2x8gb and add them up with the already existing 2x4, so getting a total of 24gb. Is this possible? I was going to buy the exact same type of ram. Or is it worth upgrading motherboard and get ddr4 ram with 3200Mhz? And will my other components work with a newer motherboard.

My pc:
Corsair graphite 230T
Cooler Master B500 Ver.2
Intel LGA1150 Core i5-4690
MSI LGA1150 B85-G43 Gaming
HyperX Savage DDR3 1600MHz 8GB (2x4)
Gainward GeForce Gtx970 4gb GDDR5 PCI-E
HyperX Savage SSD 240GB 7mm
win 10

Yes, you can add two 8 GB sticks to your current setup, but if you have a 1600 MHz kit, i'd advise to buy the same 1600 MHz kit.

You can use CPU-Z to find the mode; no of your RAM.

Upgrading the board may not be worth it.

Thanks!, So i found out that my ram is this one: Kingston khx1600c9d3/4gx (2x4gb), will this work together with Kingston HX316C9SRK2/8 in a setup of 2x4gb khx1600c9d3/4gx + 2x8gb HX316C9SRK2/8 ?

Yes, It should work, but 24 GB might be overkill.

It looks like you're using two modules of Hyper x genesis 1600 MHz 4GB DDR3 RAM, 1.5V

and i don't think it is in production anymore

Online i see some ads, but they're of CL10 models, that are tiny bit slower.

So, you buy this.

It's the customer choice award winner.
