Will This Upgrade Work?

Hi! I have a pretty straight forward question...

Here is my current set up

660TI FTW* (looking to upgrade)
i5 3570k OC'd @ 4.4 Ghz
(212 Plus Cooler on CPU)
8GB 1600 ram
Corsair 650 watt supply (80 plus bronze)

Would my Power Supply be sufficient for a MSI GTX 970 with my CPU overclock?

Thanks so much!

Not worth the upgrade. Your CPU will bottleneck a $300 card. To be honest, I don't even know why you undervolted and underclocked to 4.4 Mhz. ;)

As for the PSU, and your CPU at 4.4Ghz, I'm not really sure since the GTX 970 will dig into your extra power used for OC.

Shouldn't be a problem, 970 is a 200W card. Make sure you have the correct PCI-E power connectors for the card you buy. I don't know why okcnaline believes that your CPU will cause a performance bottleneck, i5 3570 is still quite competitive performance-wise.

Your 3570 should be just fine with a gtx 970. Even if it bottleneckd it 10% you would be still be doing doughnuts around your 660.

As far as psu, it depends. Some corsair models like the CX used weaker capacitors that broke down over time or from a larger load. While 650w is sufficient it could easily be the last straw for the PSU and kill it. Now it does have decent protections in it so the possibility of it damaging anything else is minimal.

What?

i5-3570k at 4.4 Ghz is more then enough for any two GPUs, let alone a single 970.

GTX660Ti -> GTX760 -> GTX670 -> GTX680 / GTX770 -> GTX780 -> GTX780Ti / GTX970 -> GTX980

Not a huge improvement, but a significant step up.

Power supply is adequate for pretty much any single GPU, possibly excepting an HD7990 or R9-295X2

This is nonsense. The 3570k is still a great cpu, and with that overclock, it can easily provide enough erformance to match a single GTX 970.

You're trying to be funny right ? an i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz cannot pair with a gtx 970 ???

Right now, I am stress testing at 4.4Ghz and my Vcore goes no higher than 1.096. Would that leave me room to possibly increase? Or am I wrong there?

Here is what I have http://

Nonsense? xD Seems like OP corrected the speed. When I saw the post first, it said 4.4 Mhz, roughly the amount of hertz the Intel 8008 has. But yes, it's actually a great CPU, and yes, it's worth upgrading, but the PSU may pose a problem.

Yep. ;) It originally said 4.4 Mhz and I was poking fun of it.
