The 4790k will be a whole new world compared to a FX6300. But big fps increases in gaming, come from the GPU, not the CPU.
I'd still upgrade the CPU first, because if you get like a GTX970 now, it will be bottlenecked by your FX6300.
I'd also just get the 4790k if you also do editing or have the money to blow. If you're just gaming, an i5-4690k/i5-6600k will do just as good as the i7.
I do video editing simetimes. Btw i have takked to people about the 970 with my cpu and they said since i got it overclocked it wont bottleneck much
Yea, you can minimize bottleneck (GTX970 + FX6300) with OC to around 4.2Ghz but you'll still notice it in CPU heavy stuff like GTA or Battlefield.
You're pretty much free to choose what to upgrade first. 😀
The 970 will give you way more fps than before but no faster editing. If you're mostly gaming the 970 will be the better choice i guess. While the 4790k will do editing at least twice as fast but only give you a samll fps increase. I'd choose the 4790k if you're editing/rendering ALOT.
More gaming = GTX970 or whatever card you want
More rendering = 4790k
Oh ok i got a 4.4 ghz overclcok on this fx 6300 and i mainly do gaming so i may get a new gpu. Bf4 is excellent but in gta v i notice fps drops when in grassy areas

Yea, GTA is pretty heavy in some areas. But i think a GPU upgrade will still give you more fps overall, even though GTAV is pretty CPU heavy. If you we're already looking for 970s, then I'd go for one, since that would be a HUGE improvement.
The CPU upgrade would also cost alot more. CPU + motherboard (Z-series for OCing if you get the K model CPU) + maybe a new Windows copy, because they are often bound to a specific motherboard.
