My graphics card has a display port and dvi output but my monitor only works with vga. I am currently using a dvi-vga adapter attached to a vga cable and wanted to know if getting a dp-vga adapter (attached to a dp cable) will work any better. Thanks in advance.

Solution
it depends on the resolution, refresh rate, number of screens, and other display capabilities.

if you're only putting out 1080p @ 60Hz to a single display:
[VGA > VGA] or [DP > either] would offer the same options. whichever option was the cheapest would be the best.
you are limited to the frequency the VGA input on the display can handle. it wouldn't make any difference whether you use DP or DVI-D output from the GPU as both use much higher frequency than VGA.

to take advantage of any options available with the higher DP frequency, you would need to purchase a display that makes use of them. such as >=2K resolution, >60Hz refresh rate, HDR capabilities, etc.

why are you looking to change, is there some available display option that you are currently unable to use with your current setup?

DVI-D to DVI-D is the best option if your monitor already has this input available. it should have come with a cable.

DisplayPort from GPU to display is the highest frequency option with the most available features.
but, if you have to use an adapter than you are limiting the DP output to the specific adapter's specs; whether DVI, HDMI, or VGA.
so in your situation it would not help improve anything. you're better off with DVI-D running from the GPU straight to the monitor.
