So, I am getting some new parts for my pc. Mostly a new processor and mobo. My current system can't run win 11 and I just want to make sure I do this right.
I backup my system to a usb drive. I format my SSD. I take apart and replace parts. I boot into bios and install my backup to ssd. I upgrade to win 11.
Is this correct?
I'm unsure if my license will carry over to a new system. Especially with a generational jump in key hardware.

this step might not work on new hardware as you trying to use an old install on new hardware

Can be 3 results if you try to use an old install on a new PC
  1. It works fine
  2. It works but you get weird errors
  3. It doesn't work at all.

Unless I read you wrong and you were going to clean install and just use files from previous install. No point backing up entire install otherwise, I would just back up any info you need to save.
If you have any steam games you can copy those folders onto new installs.

What you should be prepared for is a clean install of win 10 on new...

you can attach license to email address - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...e-change-2c0e962a-f04c-145b-6ead-fb3fc72b6665
so that you can install it on new PC and then upgrade to win 11.
