I am attempting to load Windows 2000 on a Gateway M675
laptop. The hard drive is a Toshiba MK6022GAX 60 GB. The
installation process goes well, but after it completes and
the system reboots, it hangs up at the Windows 2000
Startup screen. I have reformatted the drive, but the
results are the same. Windows XP installs without any
problems. Windows 2000 must be installed due to local
requirements.

Any ideas?

Thanks...

Hi Ray:

Hangs during setup are usually hardware related in my experience. Try the
following suggestions and see if they help you get the product installed.

Update the system BIOS
If the machine has multiple CPUs, remove the secondary one
If the machine has multiple DIMMs or RAM, remove all but the minimum (either
1 or two DIMMs)
If the machine has a super high end video card, try using a plain old boring
VGA card during Setup.
If you have access to another harddrive, try installing to that - just to
test with.

Also check that the machine meets the minimum requirements to install
Windows 2000

Anyone have any useful replys to this problem? I have just encountered
the same issue while reinstalling W2k on the M675. I have tried all
the boot modes and all freeze up. I tried to enable boot logging, but
when I boot with Win98 disk, the ntbtlog.txt file is not there.
Scandisk found no errors. I an not sure what to try next; if anyone
has any ideas, please let me know.
