ok, what is our concensus on windows10 keys? the last few weeks ive been seeing alot of different opinions on this subject. lets get it all together under one roof. One advisor says one thing and one says the other, and the OP has no idea what to do.........I say bring a tomshardware Moderator Editor and look into it cuz this is getting us nowhere.

Kinguin? d/l from MS? copy to USB? d/l THEN wait and buy a key?what does MS say?mobo...cpu????????guh.

our priority is to give the best advice we can on the subject to the OP. if we are not together on the subject we might as well tell everyone to torrent win10.

everyone do some research and find the best answer.

thanks...:) and lets all come to a agreement.

Solution
I always strongly discourage.
Including links from members here where they fail, and descriptions from elsewhere in the interwebs of how these licenses are obtained.

One just yesterday...http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3435509/activate-windows-motherboard-cpu-upgrade-failing-epically.html
"I bought a key from Kinguin. It failed on my new hardware"
"I went through the troubleshooter, it failed again"
"I bought another one, it failed"

By this time...you've spent just as much money, and spent more time, than a valid one, that would have worked with no issues.

These are just as valid as the guy in the Walmart parking lot with boxes of 70" TV's in his van.
They may even be actual TV's. But of course stolen. Or S0ny, not Sony...

People don't want Linux, they want Windows. So they'll do whatever it takes to get it as cheap as possible. Buying Windows from grey sources has become immensely popular these days. In the righteous person's mind it isn't a good alternative, but it is definitely happening.

right...so we recommend against it and give them no support to help if they want.

That's why Microsoft allows consumers to use Windows 10 for free, unactivated.

There's nothing we can do besides suggesting against, informing of the sins, suggesting legitimate options, or/and downvoting.
We can't force people to do/no to do things. Otherwise this would have zero crime.

It is against PcPP's rules to suggest grey market licences as an option, and leads to a deleted comment and possibly temp/perm ban/mute if action is repeated multiple times. This is just an example of how other forums deal with it.

right...so we shouldnt suggest the grey market as an alternative, period.

Good, but if someone else is, and you give them better information to make their own decision that's all that we ask.

Understood. Still, using such services is a risk. No advice will prevent their use, nor other nefarious methods of acquiring Windows.

If a guy offered you a $1000 laptop on a street corner for $100, showed you a "receipt" as proof of ownership, and said "I guaranty this product", would you buy it? This is similar to the tact taken by the grey market resellers.

Buyer beware. Period.

Many do offer this advice, both mods and non-mods. No notification or specific quote is required.

I would suggest when you come across these issues to offer your input and to move along. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

reminds me of those fail pics of a box labeled PS4 and there are 4 playstation 1's inside.

Or the guy on the corner, selling pieces of paper with a 'license key' on it, for $25.

The ones that get me are:
"I spent all my money on hardware, and forgot the OS. Where can I get one cheap or free?"

'Oh? Change the statement a little':
"I spent all my money on hardware, and forgot the RAM. Where can I get 8GB cheap or free?"

Solution
I did work up a post back in January that I'd asked for feedback on...............maybe I should go back & update it, then post in the open forum..... we'd have some sort of 'canned answer' then?

*EDIT*
JUst copied it over...... probably needs some tweaks/updates, but the general idea is there....
PRetty long-winded though.

This is not good advice.

Lol thanks for your feedback.

You are welcome. BTW, during the recent Wannacry outbreak, the users most at risk were using pirated (not updated) Windows installs. The 2 most affected countries, Russia and China. There is no good reason to pirate Windows. Never.
