First a little description of the setup:
A desktop PC with win 10 redstone, connected to a laptop with win 10, and a WIFI connection to the BB router. This has worked for ages, with the laptop sharing the Internet connection to the desktop.
Last night the laptop installed the redstone/anniv. "upgrade", and rebooted as it should. The Internet connection on the desktop PC now has the dreaded yellow warning triangle. Troubleshooting now shows the problem "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Tried releasing IP, on both laptop and desktop, rebooting, rebooting router, made sure both have ipv4 set to auto etc. Nothing works. Both comps show Unidentified network. Device manager does not give any warnings, tried reinstalling the laptops network controller to no avail. The wifi connection on the laptop is still working as intended, and is showing as shared.
On the laptop I have three connections available: Cisco VPN client (disabled) Local Area Connection (with unidentified network) and the WIFI (working and sharing turned on). On the desktop I have Ethernet (with unidentified network) and Ethernet 2 (This is a VPN showing as cable unplugged)
IPconfig shows DHCP enabled etc, but I still get a 169.264 IPv4 address on the desktop.

Any suggestions on how I can get my connection on the desktop back? I am 99.997% certain the redstone update on the laptop somehow caused this. Sorry for the messy post, I've been searching around for hours, and I'm about to go postal here 😛

Yes. ipv4 settings on desktop:

IP address: 10.0.0.138 (my router ip)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 10.0.0.138 (this keeps blanking out when I return to the options)
Preferred DNS: 37.235.1.174
Alt DNS : 37.235.1.177

with these settings on the desktop, nothing changes, same yellow triangle and error. (ipconfig now shows DHCP as not enabled)
I tried to enter these settings on the laptop, and the LAN connection changed from unidentified network to Network 3.

I noticed I do not have the LAN connection on the desktop, just two Ethernet, is that a problem? It hasn't been in the past.

Have also tried the "netsh winsock reset catalog" as admin, no effect.

your computer cannot have the same IP address as your router, that will cause IP conflict. change your PCs ip address a few numbers up or down like IP address: 10.0.0.137 and let me know what happens. (in my many cases, i use the router`s IP address as a DNS, might worth trying)....

other common issue with win10 upgrade is that you sometimes need to reinstall your ethernet drivers. have you tried that solution?

I noticed this in my router settings:

IP Addressing Values
Beginning IP Address :
10.0.0.139
Ending IP Address :
10.0.0.254
Auto reserve IP for the same host : Enable

I changed IP adress on desktop so it's within range, but nothing. If you by reinstall ethernet drivers mean, device manger -->net. adapters --> uninstall --> scan for hardware changes etc.. yes, tried that on all adapters, both laptop and desktop.

if the beginning address is .139 try the following:
IP: 10.0.0.140
SUB: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 10.0.0.138

(this is on your main PC)
let me know results.

Tried, but didn't work.

Also tried to set static IP by entering the ipconfig network card mac address into the router and giving it a designated IP within range, and the entering the same IP in Windows. Nooooo change.

Think I've solved it. I enabled Mobile Hotspot in the "new" win10 settings on the laptop, which in turn created a new "Local Area Network*12" on my laptop. The yellow triangle disapeared almost immediately on my desktop PC after I reset the IP setting to Auto. I had no connection for a couple minutes, when suddenly the mobile hotspot disabled itself, the new LAN dissapeared and a private network was established between the PCs. How it worked I have no idea whatsoever, but it did. Thanks for all your time and help, atesz! :)
