I have a Dell D820 notebook running Windows 7 Pro that I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10.

When I use the online upgrade tool, I get "something went wrong" - error code 0x80070005. It says turn off anti-virus software. I uninstalled MSE, but got the same result.

Media Creation tool simply doesn't run. Double click the exe, and nothing happens.

I created a DVD on another machine, and tried to run setup.exe on the Dell machine. It shows the Windows 10 logo for about 5 seconds, then that disappears and the DVD spins down.

Running the "GetWindows10-Web_default_attr.exe" application gives the "there was a problem starting Setup" error.

I dug around a bit and found some log files in C:\$GetCurrent\logs.
An interesting point is the filename: compatcheck_2016_05_31_03_52_44_436.log Today is 2016-05-30, and the computer date is set correctly. The file's date stamp shows 2016-05-30.

Here is the log contents - Inside the log it also has the wrong date:

Solution
The solution was running "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair". After the repair ran in safe mode, the Upgrade assistant said the computer was compatible, and launched into the download, and successfully completed the upgrade.
Looking at the actual machine, I would expect the hardware it would not support windows 10 and may get blocked by the installer.
(it looks like a 2006 era machine, released with windows xp)

-----------------
error 0x80070005 is access denied
I would think you don't have the admin rights to do a update of the OS.

The hardware meets the windows 10 specifications https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-specifications

CPU is Core Duo T2600 @ 2.16 GHz. Supports PAE/NX/SSE2

Upgrade programs have been run from administrator.
