I just installed Win2K, when windows starts it checks my floppy drive even though there is no disk in it, then once my desktop loads it checks the floppy drive again. Is this normal and is there anyway I can make it stop doing it.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

Does the same with me. Haven't figured why either. I went to computer management and cancelled some of the services that are running. I wish there was "msconfig" for win2000 too. I'd like to see what applications are on startup because after I log on, it locks up for 10 seconds. Really annoying and it's not a hardware problem.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

Thanks for msconfig. I tried disabling everything I didn't know what it is for, still gives me a 20 second hang on logon. I think this problem started when I installed norton utilities a while back. I tried uninstalling it but still no go.
Thanks for the info.

Do you have the same lockup drunkenmaster, or did you at least figure which service is accessing the floppy drive?

go into your bios and turn off the floppy seek option. make sure you write down on paper the exact setting you are changing in case you need to make any more changes..
ps. i allways have a written copy of my bios setting to refer back to..good luck

My system doesnt hang for more than 2 seconds it just annoys me because it does it twice before I can do anything.
If i disable in the bios then if I need a startup disk I wouldn't be able to use it correct?

thats true you will be skipping the floppy on boot up..but you can allways change the bios setting back if you need to use the boot floppy option in the future..:)
