Question Win7 3.5 floppy drive doesn't show up

I have a 3.5 floppy drive that I know works. I tried to reconnect it to check some old disks. First I made sure it was turned on in the BIOS (might just be for boot IDK). Windows 7 shows the floppy drive in Device Manager and I got a message saying it was installed, but A drive doesn't show up in Windows Explorer or Disk Manager. I tried Googling it and came up with nothing. Any ideas?

did you check disk managment to see if it shows up in there? Considering how old floppy drives are i am not even sure if they would be supported in a OS like windows 7 anymore

Ensure that the ribbon cable is connected in the proper orientation. Red stripe goes to pin 1.

Yeah I said in the OP that it shows up in Device Manager, but not Disk Management.

That's only an indicator that the driver is installed and reporting "all is well". It is not an indicator that the hardware is operating correctly.

Floppy drives are most definitely NOT IDE. The proper cable doesn't even have the same number of pins.

You still haven't provided the system specs as requested. For instance, what specific motherboard are we discussing?

Please provide pictures showing both ends of the cable connected to both the drive and motherboard. Make sure they are clear and show all markings.

I misspoke, I meant it was connected with a ribbon cable. It turned out to be a bad cable. I pitched all the floppy cables I had years ago so this was one my grandpa had and I didn't see he had written "Good?" on one of the connectors. It was not...
