i have vista64 loaded on a new hard drive and downloaded win7 64 and got this error: "You can’t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows". i double checked my vista dvd and it only has 64 on it. under system information it reads that it's a 64 build. even downloaded the 32 win7 version and got the same error. even had a friend burn it on a flash drive. still the same error. why is it reading that i have a 32 os?
any clues?

Solution
Use the download link and burn a proper install disk of windows 7 RC. Boot to the disk and install it as a stand alone OS system with nothing to do with an existing Vista 64 installation. Installing it on the second spare HD would be the easy way. A boot menu will appear when the system is powered on asking which OS you want to boot to, Windows 7 or Vista 64.
It's saying you already have 64bit windows Vista and that it can't upgrade that to 32 bit windows 7. You need to download Windows 7 x64 and install that if you want to do an upgrade. Alternatively you could do a clean install of 32bit on a different partition/drive.

Solution
Revelie,

It is not recommended to "upgrade" any operating system to Windows 7RC. When installing any operating system it is always recommended to perform a CLEAN install on either a seperate partition or a seperate hard drive.
