Win7 Backup aborts with error code 0x80070422

Hi,

This error usually occurs if one of the services required for windows backup to work is disabled or not started.

To check for the services, click on start, in the start search bar type services and then press enter.

Please check that the following services are enabled:

- "Remote Procedure Call" (RPCSS) should be enabled, Automatic.

- "COM+ Event System" (EventSystem) should be enabled, Manual.

- "System Event Notification Service" (SENS) should be enabled, Automatic.

- "Volume Shadow Copy" (VSS) should be enabled, Manual.

- "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" (SWPRV) should be enabled, manual.

- "Block Level Backup Engine Service" should be enabled, manual

Once you make any changes according to the specifications listed above, you can try a backup and check if that resolves the issue

Hope this helps,
PD

I had the same problem, and somehow, my Windows Backup services was turned off

Just turn it back on

With my issue, the Microsoft Shadow Copy Provider Service keeps changing its status from "Manual" to "Disabled". I change it back but it continues to happen. My question is: "What is causing this issue to happen?"

Peter,
Thank you for your response but I already know the solution to the issue. This is only a temporary solution as the Microsoft Shadow Copy

service continually changes itself from "Manual" or "Automatic" to "Disabled" the minute I shut down the PC, download anything to the PC (

which includes just simply going on-line) or I run another backup. What I don't know is what is causing this change in status to occur so that I

can stop it from happening. It is an ongoing issue. Symantec has no answer and doesn't believe that their application is causing the issue

even though it doen'toccur when I use the integrated windows backup program. As a certified Microsoft Professional I would give them a call

to se what they would say but I have long since lost any phone numbers I have had for them. Would you have a technical service phone

number I could call that doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to generate an answer? Once again I am using Vista Business SP 2 as my OS, I

have over 4GB of disk space available on drive 0 (which holds my OS) and 140GB of disk space on drive 1 (which I am using for my

backups). Both drives are internal to the workstation.

I had the same problem with the backup service not working and returning error 0x80070422, I started all the services quoted above and the one service that would constantly start and stop was the "Block Level Backup Engine Service".

You need to make sure that the "Virtual Disk" service is also started (automatic) along with all of the above services started. Worked for me.
