Win98 Surface Scan?

Ok I have a Western Digital 15 gig drive, ata66 and 7200 rpm. Lately I have been having problems with windows and have had to do bad restarts quite frequently. Now I have seen win98 run scandisk a thousand times but lately my system has decided that my drive "may have bad sectors." So win98 wants to run a surface scan every few boots, and when I let it run it never finds a problem. Does this make sense to anyone? I can't figure out what makes windows decide to do a full scan when there is apparently nothing wrong.

Any suggestions?

I’m assuming you shut down windows every time so what I suggest is go to start/programs/accessories/scandisk, then run a through scandisk.
Might take awhile so before u go to bed would be a good time.
If that don’t work WD has some utility program u can test your hard drive.
You didn’t say what mother board u have but if u have a regular IDE u could try running the hard drive from there to see if it’s the ATA. I read somewhere the ATA100 on some A7V were having problems but I also read BIOS 1005C and new drivers takes care of the problem.

Good luck & cya
