Yes: scan for viruses as has been suggested.

What led to the original conclusion that there is a virus? Was a specific virus identified?

Also: Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

What are you doing when the system gets slow? Gaming, browsing, bit-mining...?

Do you have a home network? Do any other computers on the home network get slow?

More information needed.

AVG or Avast has a boot scan that catches nasty viruses & trojans.
Free to use and scan for viruses but to protect you have to buy.

Years ago I bought a single core processor computer with multiple virus problems and had to use AdwCleaner.exe also. I had re-direction of my mouse going to other websites where they were nude and alarms went off, if not Google Chrome.... Oooh CRASH. Pop up blockers from an infection so I could not even negotiate websites without pop up blockers with the problem being my own computer. An search string in the web browser to Hi Jack my browser to be on the INTERNEAT. Every thing becomes EVIL with bells and alarms and the FCC out to get me.

Just use an Anti-virus. Somehow I had all my web browsers combine together like a DIGI-MON. Chrome-Mozilla-fox-Internet-explorer into one giant monster web browser.
