hello internet, my system has been running fine up until now, i upgrade it a month ago.

  • ryzen 5 1600
    gtx 1080
    msi b350 pro carbon
    8gb ddr4 3000mhz ram (running at 2133mhz)
windows tell me that i can only use 3.9gb of my 8gb ram, in the bios it states that i have 8gb install and windows also recognises this. so its not a hardware issue. ive been awake overnight for the last 12 hours trying to find a solution to this issues, heres a list of what ive tried to fix this;

  • running msconfig and changing the maximum memory (done this in around 7-8 times)
    changing the virtual memory in the advanced system settings tab (lost count)
    cleard cmos (about 10 times)
    this is my second clean install of windows within these 12 hours
i think im missing something of that list but i cant remember what it is
heres my system properties page;

Solution

sorry i missed that piece of information off, i have a x64 operating system. i have somehow managed to get the ram to 4gb now though, which is always a plus... still missing the other 4 though

A common culprit is an improperly seated DIMM, dirty contacts, or a faulty DIMM. Remove the DIMMs then clean the contacts and socket with electronic contact cleaner. Clean the area of any dust or debris then reinstall them. If one still does not work test them individually in each socket until a fault is identifiable.
