So I have built a PC one week ago

(specs: MSI z170a gaming pro, intel core I5-6600K, 16 gigs (2x8) of hyperX ddr4-2133, crucial bx 240GB ssd, and a 500GB hdd (coming out of ps4 which is now having 1.5TB),

no gpu (I own a geforce 6800 but it isnt working on my pc for some reason), NZXT s340 b/r and a seasonic 620w psu). So I installed windows 10 64x one week ago and it has been working fine all day.

At one point my brother installed some steam games (smite and team fortress) and when I singed out of his account to play games it gave a black screen, when restarting, no action. Bios is working fine and I WAS able to get in the repair menu of windows. But it wouldn't show me the user menu or that widget you would need to slide up to sign in.

So I cleared both drives completely and installed windows again from a usb stick. it was installing ok (it was having lower graphics but that shouldn't be a problem) and after installation it got working(for some reason it was breaking after a few minutes every time I reinstalled windows). restarting for a chipset download worked but when turned off and on windows did the same as it did after logging out. Cleared CMOS, no difference. In boot devices menu it was showing windows boot manager and the ssd where windows is installed on, none of these worked properly.

So I repeated this process of reinstalling windows again and again with every time different settings in bios. After some try's it booted with better graphics and it didn't automatically give a black screen as mentioned before. I was able to install all drivers but it is still having that problem where it breaks after turning off. please help me out...

firstly, a geforce 6800 is 12 years old, the integrated graphics in your 6600k are better than what it can do.

You shouldn't need to change bios settings to install windows, apart from maybe USB settings to get it to see the installer. I would set the bios back to defaults.

Are you using drivers from the MSI web site or off their disc? Windows 10 will grab driver pack for your motherboard when its installed but they aren't the newest drivers in most cases.

I know i5-6600k graphics are better but I thought I would just say it. It MIGHT be extra information you could need.

Also I just installed MSI live update to make everything last driver possible

from that post:

Hello,

Solve this and you may have your answer: When you enable the XMP what settings does it change and how are they related to the CPU? :)

The iGPU requires a near default voltage in order to function correctly however when you enable the XMP the voltage to this region of the CPU is increased beyond that, usually over 1.2v.
In the BIOS you need to change the following voltages,

SA Voltage = 1.150v
IO Voltage = 1.150v

My recommendation is set both to 1.150v and test your memory at XMP / iGPU.

So I have used XMP before actually, I have been OC'ing without experience and I usually have been using CPU at 4.5ghz staying under 50 degrees at stress test with hyper 212x maxed out fan speed and I put memory to 3000mhz. Do you advise me to OC memory again and so yes at what frequency?

BTW it is showing no mouse at all, also, I have done what you said and it isn't working. Luckily I have a pc expert close to me who might fix it. Else I will ask MSI or windows it they can help. Thanks for your support though. I will send results and details to help others out!
