I have windows 10 and I was using my computer its been fine nothing wrong with it at all. I got a notification saying it couldn't install any updates so I checked it out then clicked the restart and install now button. It did its thing installed everything but on restart now I juse a black screen and a error 99 in the right hand corner. That's the short story.

Long story I have a MSI a88xm-e45. I've looked it up error 99 usually means a dead mother board but for MSI it means something wrong with the I/O ports
"Super I/O initialization" .. because of this it won't boot no bios splash screen no windows logo can't even get it to f12 or f2 nothing just black screen and 99 I even hooked it up to a VGA monitor to see the code properly and left it on all night to see there was any change there isn't. Now to try and fix it myself I've restarted I've power cycled. I've removed the battery and even broke the computer down to nothing but mobo CPU and ram. No HDD no point in having the HDD attached if I can't even get a splash screen. I've heard to try a PS/2 keyboard or even just restart it enough times and hope you get lucky and it works. May also be good to note with my GPU in I get video without the GPU I get no video at all I have an and 760k processor so maybe good reason as to why I have no onboard video. Today I'm gonna go to work unplug it and remove the battery and let it sit to see if I can get it to reset and hopefully work.but as far as I know idk how to fix this. If there's something I can do besides buying a new one I'd love to hear it.. I refuse to buy a new mobo all because Microsoft update killed my computer. Thank you.

Yes I've reset CMOS almost to the point of insanity. I've even tried with no ram sticks lol then the mobo gets mad and beeps telling me it can't detect ram. I've removed all power even all fans except system all HDDs and even the 24 pin and 4 pin connectors from the PSU left them off and unplugged while I went to.work . Still black screen error 99

Yea me either I've never heard of windows actually destroying hardware or getting into the system like that ever in all my years of doing this. I explained my situation to a shop and they said the same thing I'm not sure what a solution would be besides MAYBE hooking up a floppy disk and dosbat my way through it but that's highly inconvenient . I don't even have one or the connectors lol. This thing is stubborn and does not want to boot bios. And if Microsoft tells me I need to buy a new one then windows 10 is going out the window.

I have a hard time believing that a windows update caused hardware damage, but I guess nothing is impossible. Refusing to replace the board though will get you nowhere since replacing the board is the only way to continue testing for problems if all you can get is an error code. An error code on restart like you experienced makes me think power surge, so if you do get a new board and get to testing, check your psu out before you install it just in case.

I did find this thread

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1859552/wont-boot-error-bottom.html

Same error code, suggestions range from plugging in a ps2 keyboard, to unplugging all usb except keyboard and mouse, or only having a ps/2 keyboard and usb mouse. They're seemingly crazy solutions, but if you get one of them to work it might tell us something.

Yea I seen a thread like that as well and I've done all tat except for PS/2 keyboard Imma they that next. The power suffer would be for other mobos I'd guess since in my post ive said for MSI it means super I/o initialization Imma pull out my old keyboard and try it its has tondo with the I/o ports obviously.. but yea windows 10 update broke it I was using my computer have been for awhile got bored and when windows gave me a notification for not being able to install I told it to restart now and install while in did laundry. I watched it go to 100% watched it restart watched it die. Now in wish I never told it to update. And my PSU is fairly new I've only had it for maybe 2-3 weeks. Replaces my old one I had for as year

im positive its not the psu. its hooked up to a surge protector all i did was upgrade my 750 to a 1000W the psu has nothing to do with it as well also if you seen my post you'd see that all i did was click restart now and the computer restarted then it didn't reboot i watched it the whole time. there wasn't anything that could of bothered it. ive seen other threads and it says that the code 99 means dead motherboard and may have seen a power surge but trust me there wasnt a chance at all. and i looked up my specific motherboard an MSI A88xm - e45 and for MSI AGAIN its an I/O initialization issue. not a dead mobo . atleast yet. this all happened just because i updated windows 10 to the big november update. i still insist that if i did not install these updates my computer would be fine. windows 10 corrupted my bios

well so i succumbed and bought a new motherboard. i switched from my previous one to a gigabyte f2a8m - HD2 . my computer started up bios went through windows 10 is now running fine again it did a rollback and is all good. rehooked up my old motherboard and still nothing black screen error 99. proof windows 10 some how miraculously is destroying motherboards everywhere.

I made an account just to let people know the same thing happened to me. A while back I upgraded to Windows 10, immediately after it installed the computer refused to go past the BIOS screen. After trying a million things I finally got it to start. Thinking I fixed the problem I restarted again and same problem. I spent hours trying to get it to start again, finally I got it to work, uninstalled Windows 10, and guess what? No problem anymore. Tech support from Windows told me my motherboard was fried and it wasn't anything on their end. Interesting... A couple months later my computer did an auto update and guess what. Same problem only this time I can't get it to start. Needless to say I called and they refuse to accept responsibility. Now I'm stuck not only buying a new motherboard, but also paying the repair place, the whole time knowing that it was Windows that destroyed my motherboard. Not to mention I make a living doing 3D animation so the time I have to wait is also costing me money. Just so everyone knows the Windows 10 upgrade may say it's free, but it's going to cost you way more than you realize.

yea taking about not taking responsibility i did have to go out and buy a new motherboard after h aving four other techs personally look at it and i talked to microsoft all day they said its not their problem. its great and all updated it works now motherboard didnt break again.

heres the part where it got stupid when i upgraded the motherboard all of a sudden my windows 10 version was not authentic anymore. so i was like ok i guess windows 10 doesnt like that i changed my motherboard. i called them up again and had someone take over my computer and try to troubleshoot it online they said they couldnt find my actual windows copy when i did upgrade from windows 7. we tried this three times and found out theres nothing you can do once you change your motherboard windows 10 wont activate anymore for some reason.

that was the first part but heres the kicker. i said ok ill just reinstall windows 7 grabbed an empty harddrive booted it up put windows 7 on it then to my nightmare all of a sudden my product key doesnt want to work anymore. so i called them up AGAIN and after 45 mins of being on the phone with them and me having my physical copy the CD and key right in front of me they said that they cant do anything about my now 100% useless copy of windows 7 i bought.. they said talk to you manufacturer i built my own computer iw as like YOU ARE MY MANUFACTURER i bought the CD from microsoft!! the lady on the phone was speechless and couldnt help at all and said they didnt do anything wrong on their part.

idk what has come of microsoft customer service but they are failing recently
