Windows 10 Dual Monitor Lag When Gaming

Recently, I upgraded to an Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p, 165hz with G-SYNC monitor connected via Display Port. I also have a BenQ 27" 1080p, 60hz monitor connected running on a GTX 1070.

When I have a windowed-borderless game (League of Legends, Overwatch, etc.) the web page (Chrome) or whatever application I'm running on my secondary monitor (BenQ) lags and is choppy. This lag/stutter is increased when the game is on a loading screen, but still happens when on normal game use.

I have a 650W PSU, updated Nvidia graphics drivers, cool enough CPU/GPU tempuratures, 16GB RAM and have tried tricks like disabling Windows transparency and deleting the Xbox app - all to no avail. I've also made sure inside Nvidia Control Panel that multiple display performance is selected. Lastly, I have G-SYNC enabled for fullscreen AND windowed mode (which I want, for windowed-mode gaming).

Does anyone have a solution as I keep reading threads with the same or very similar issues but still so many issues.

Thank you!

So I just confirmed that when I am tabbed into my main display, the second monitor runs stutter free. But as soon as I tab back to the second monitor (when in a windowed-game), it stutters again.

I found a band aid mini fix: If you have your second monitor's applications (chrome, media player, etc.) extend 1mm (not even really visible) onto your main display, it won't lag when you're tabbed out of the game.

Kinda stupid, but if anyone else has a better solution, please let me know.

Definitely has something to do with the two different monitor's resolutions not playing nice with each other.

I am having the exact same problem with my Acer Predator XB241YU.

I literally tried everything but nothing helped.

For me it seems to be a driver related problem.
As an owner of a GTX1080Ti its kinda sad.

Your monitors need to run at an equal or multiple refresh rate in Windows 10. so your 165hz monitor needs to be set to 120hz if running in a dual monitor environment with a 60hz monitor. Only way around it if you continue to use Windows 10 is to buy another 165hz monitor.

If you want to run your hardware as intended youll need to go back to Windows 7 and disable Aero. You can then enjoy your 165hz monitor without stuttering.

I run an Asus PG279Q/BenQ GW2760HS.
