So, starting a couple days ago my PC has been freezing up followed by a buzzing sound when i'm in the middle of playing a game on steam. Games that don't ask much of the GPU seem to work fine. Games like TF2 run smooth as butter yet still eventually it just suddenly freezes up and starts buzzing. The only way to fix the freeze up is if i turn off the computer. I have tried multiple things such as stress tests on the GPU uninstalling and installing drivers. Changing my Tdrdelay to 8. Trying to run with compatibility mode and much more. NOTHING. I mean NOTHING has worked. Maybe i haven't tried hard enough?

My Specs

GPU : GeForce GTX 760
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-core processor
Memory: 8.00 GB RAM
Current resolution: 1920 x 1200, 59Hz
Driver version: 364.72
Operating System: Windows 10 64bit
HDD: WD Blue 1TB, 7,200 rpm

I would like to believe it's not the gpu since it works perfectly fine on some games and had worked smoothly on windows 7 before the upgrade. Yet this problem didn't arise as soon as i got windows 10.. So what do you guys think?

Saving money by buying a cheap psu can come back to bite you when it starts killing parts in pc. even more so if it can kill you. Power isn't a spot to save money, i always get a good psu now I never knew how good mine was till i saw that chart and saw my brand makes about half the psu in tier one. Makes me feel a little safer.

Get a good psu and don't play in lower resolutions than you have to. Anything from T3 up would be good enough, don't need t1 unless you have multiple cards in pc... i got t2 in my case just cause that is what maker used. I have more than enough for what i have.

currently 39.2 here but then I am in Australia so its Autumn, and its 5am
There is a real chance you are right about that power supply. Its tier 5 on here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Avoid IMMEDIATELY. These units are highly unsafe to use. No such protections added, very thin gauge wiring used, false advertising and too much to list. Reference to a higher tiered unit for a better, money saving and a much safer unit. For your safety's sake, please don't order or pick one up for use in your system. These units are a potential fire hazard and could even kill you, let alone your system.

Run away now...

It may not be the cause but there is a good chance its helping.

So i'm now looking into new power supply's. What's even worse is i live in Phoenix and it's starting to hit the 90's. While i still find my power source likely to fail soon. I seemed to have fixed the freezing up problem by changing my display resolution. Yet only time will tell if that will keep it from freezing. I'll keep you posted. Thank you for sending me that quote! Though i need to put my running shoes on first. :)

Sorry for the late reply just got back from class.
Sure enough i thought i could get away with the PSU until i had more money and sure enough it's proving to be a problem. I am definitely going to take your advice and should've heeded to advice i had back when i bought the psu. Nonetheless i will definitely make it a priority to buy a nicer one. I had to have a little chuckle at the thought of the power supply catching fire though i know it's in the realm of possibility.

Lucky you! :) I'm actually hoping myself to move overseas when i'm finished with college. Thank you again friend!

i know u don't need convincing anymore but that image of psu on fire? is it as funny if you think of entire pc on fire instead? Cause that could happen too with a badly made power supply. Efficiency is more important than high numbers, 1000 watts not help if it all just leaks away and you only get half of that if not less. The rating of PSU (Bronze, gold, platinum etc is what tells you how good it is, but some psu call themselves Platinum when that is just their name, not their rating). Best way to know how good a PSU is by looking at reviews from tech sites, not news sites.
