Question Windows 10 freezing whenever audio is playing

Hi all,

So I know there are a ton of posts on multiple forums regarding Windows 10 freezing for some reason or other, but I still haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.

Problem is as follows:
I have been running Windows 7 without any issues whatsoever, and recently decided to upgrade to Windows 10 due to the discontinuation of Windows 7.
Partitioned one of my drives and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro onto the 200GB partition.
Everything worked, Windows 10 runs. However the problems start once I run anything that involves audio.
The time differs, but once audio has been playing from between as little as a few minutes to an hour, the audio will loop/stutter for about 5 seconds, everything will lock up and freeze, and I will have to hard reset the PC. I have left it in this state for a few hours to see if anything happens, and it just stays in that frozen state.

After trying a lot of the suggested solutions in forums, I have been able to narrow it down to the audio drivers being the issue. I have a graphics card, and sound drivers on my motherboard.
I have tried routing the audio through both the HDMI connection, and directly through the audio drivers on the motherboard with the same unsuccessful result.
Only if I disable both drivers, so that no audio is being transmitted through a driver, does the problem go away.
I have been able to play games, and had the computer running for days without a single freeze under this condition.

I have updated my drivers, tried different drivers, different driver versions, and nothing seems to fix the problem.
I also still have my installation of Windows 7 running and able to play audio without any issues on the same PC.
Not being able to play any audio is a real pain at the moment, and I'm hoping to find a fix without having to resort to something costly like replacing my motherboard.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Are you on the latest BIOS update for your motherbaord? Have you manually installed your drivers under compatibility mode, i.e right click installer>Compatibility tab>Windows 7(from the drop down menu)? Also, which version of Windows 10 are you working with?

How old is that PSU?

My PSU is close to 6 years old and I'm running Windows 10 Pro Version 1909, not activated at the moment.
I haven't tried installing the drivers under compatibility mode as yet so I will try that first.
The BIOS version on my MB is v2.6 and the latest is v2.8. I thought it was a bit risky to update to the latest version so I haven't tried it yet, but I will try that if compatibility mode doesn't work.

I'll post back with the results as soon as I've had time to try the above.

Update on my progress towards solving the above issue.

I've tried installing the audio drivers from the MSI website for my specific mobo in Windows 7 compatibility mode, the problem still persists. I'm not sure if there is any way to confirm that the drivers are actually running in Windows 7 compatibility mode or not.

I'm not sure how to go about installing the Nvidia HD audio drivers however. Nvidia only has a full Geforce GTX 750 Ti driver, which includes the audio drivers in the install package. I've tried installing this in Windows 7 compatibility mode, but the installer does not start due to an error. I've tried running the Windows 7 version of the installer as well, but it results in a similar error and the installer does not start. So I haven't had much luck with this.

I've also successfully updated my BIOS to the latest version available (2.8), but this didn't fix the issue either.

I'm not sure what the next step would be from here. I forgot to mention that my Windows version is 64-bit.
