I use a Logitech C310HD webcam when making Skype calls. It has been working fine until this morning. The video call lasted ten seconds before my side of the screen went black.

I went into settings to test the audio and video, and it would flash between a black screen and a “No device found” message for both Camera and Microphone.

I keep a spare webcam of the same type, so I switched it out, only to have the sameproblem. I tried both USB ports, it made no difference.

In the end, I had to use my laptop. I plugged in my webcam and it worked fine

Afterwards, I tested the webcam on a different app, this time the Windows 10 Camera app. Same problem, it didn't detect my camera.

Thinking it might be a connectivity issue with the motherboard, I inserted a USB stick with files on it. It read the files fine, I opened multiple documents.

I tried running Windows Update and detecting driver updates, but everything seems to be up to date. I also went into privacy settings to see if Windows 10 didn't have permission to access my camera for some reason, but again, that wasn't the problem.

I also tried simply restarting the PC, but I still have this problem. And yet the webcam is showing up in Device Manager as “working properly”.

Not 100% certain ifthis is a Windows 10 issue or not, but does anyone have any idea what the problem is here?

You forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU. Include it's age as well.

BIOS version for your motherboard?

Try and reinstall your chipset drivers in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

If the webcam works fine on a donor system, then the issue could be your USB port(or a driver issue) or the OS(being corrupt+a driver issue).

Okay, the PSU is a Corsair 550W CV-Series CV-550. It came with my system back in 2020.
The BIOS version is 1202.

I just tried downloading the drivers from a website, and installing via "Run as Administrator". Now, when I try to use the camera my PC goes into blue screen with a SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION error (code: lvuvc4.sys).

The PC restarts and works fine, but I'm now very wary of using my webcam. I don't know if this is my webcam, or if the drivers I downloaded are dodgy.

It's late here, I'll try again tomorrow. Any advice would be much appreciated.

So I just uninstalled the drivers, which might be old, and downloaded the latest version from Logitech's website (yes, I should have done that in the first place). Now, I'm not getting the BSOD errors, but when I try to use it, I get "No camera detected" messages. Normally when I plug the webcam in, a small light on the side of it comes on, but that hasn't been happening.

I'm starting to think this might be a USB issue or a corrupt OS.

EDIT: Okay, I got it working, but only when using one of the USB ports on the back of the PC. Neither of the two front ports will recognize my webcam for some reason.

Does this suggest a problem with my motherboard? Or something else? I've never encountered this before.

Last week, my Logitech C310 HD webcam suddenly stopped working at the start of a Skype call. I had to plug the webcam into a laptop, and it worked fine. The two front USB ports would not recognise my webcam. The same thing happened when I plugged in a new webcam of the same make.

I posted about it here.

After a day of messing around with the settings and updating drivers, it finally occurred to me to try the USB ports on the back of the PC. And it worked – my PC recognised the webcam.

I tested a USB stick on the two front USB ports, and it was recognised and opened the files perfectly fine. But for some reason these two ports won't recognise my webcam ?

Is this an early sign of motherboard failure? I bought the system in late 2020.

I just checked, and the webcam is detected in Device Manager, even when plugged into the front USB ports where it isn't working.

Still really confused. I'll see what happens when I update the BIOS, hopefully this weekend.
What kind of device is it showing up as? Have you tried running the troubleshooter on said device?

You can try downloading new drivers for it, just make sure they're from the official manufacturer website.

It's showing up under Cameras as Logi 310 HD Webcam. I tried digging around the system to find a troubleshooter to use on this device, and the closest I could find was a setting to troubleshoot the microphone and audio recording. It found nothing, no problems, and the drivers were up to date.

I already downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturers website, and that didn't make any difference.

So I finally got around to updating the BIOS, and it hasn't made any difference - the front 2 ports don't detect my webcam. Although interestingly, the webcam does work with the USB 3.0 port on the front.

This isn't a huge problem for me any more, I can get by without the 2 front ports. But if anyone has any ideas of what else I could do, I would be interested to hear. Is this a Windows 10 issue, or is this a sign that my motherboard is on it's way out?
