Windows 10 Microphone problems

i just upgraded to windows 10 and a z170 board. i have tried almost everything i know ive uninstalled drivers and re installed them. and whats odd is the microphone works in the windows sound thing. but i cant get it to work for skype or discord when the microphone is selected. its driving me crazy i know the problem is not my microphone because i see green bars when i go into sound settings and talk. please help

click start, settings, privacy, microphone. Check to see microphone is set to on and which apps are allowed to use it.
