Hello, I just bought a new Asus F555LA-AB31 with Windows 10 from amazon and after about a couple days, the speaker icon in the system tray has a little red X near it. And when hovered over it, it says no audio output is installed. I've tried a multitude of fixes, including reinstalling audio driver, using system restore and restarting Windows audio from services.msc, and none of them work.

My PC Specs:
Intel core i3 5010u
4gb ram
Realtek hd audio
Windows 10

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Did you have audio for the two first days?
2. Or was the X already there from the beggining?...

If yes to the first question:
On the Taskbar notification area, right click on the Speaker icon and click on Playback Devices > select the Default audio device (speakers) > click Configure > select the type of speakers you're using > click Test... If no sound is heard, it's a problem with the speaker installation or the sound card installation... If a sound is heard, it's a sound configuration issue.

If yes to the second question:
There's a known sound issue that requires enabling Windows Automatic Updates and the first or first few updates to be installed before you can get any audio from the sound card.

Uninstall your drivers you have put in for audio as may conflict with win10 drivers ms put in ?

i have had this problem with my asus win10 board now works from win10 drivers only.

I tried it, but when I clicked the sound tab, there were no devices there and it showed me the same error message. Thanks for replying, though.

I had audio for the first couple of days, though. But when I restarted my computer, that's when the problem started. When I used system restore, the same thing happened. I had audio for the first day and then I lost it again.

I first had these problems with the onboard Windows drivers. I went to ASUS' website and downloaded the audio drivers for my model, installed them, restarted my computer and nothing changed.

Yes, but after uninstall & restart pc did you go to device manager then tell it to find drivers for it via the internet ?

I installed drivertalent and scanned for drivers. The audio drivers didn't show up in any of the tabs(repair, normal, or updateable.)

It said that the drivers are up to date.

Well I have now is this web address for Asus, which is win10 supported m/b's

https://www.asus.com/uk/support/FAQ/1013093/

My Asus motherboard has sound but no drivers available for the ati 3000, on board gpu so I have no sound unless I use analogue or digital output

Actually, The problem is in a laptop, so I don't know what motherboard i'm using, and the link is for desktop motherboards. I don't know anything about digital or analog outputs, but I tried to use the Apple earpods that came with my phone and the problem persists.

The make & model of your laptop should be on the underside on the serial sticker ?

I know what make and model of the laptop I have, but the link you gave is for desktop motherboards.

Google your mother board = (make - model - Driver download) then follow a link to Asus & check for win10 drivers, it may take some time for driver to be available for win10 as its only about 2 months old.

As I mentioned before, I went to ASUS website, searched for my model, selected my processor and os,(selected windows 10) and downloaded the driver for audio, installed it, rebooted and nothing happened.

Had the same problem, ASUS laptop, UX32L. I was inclined torwards hardware malfunction, but now i think it is a conflict with the video drivers. Whenever watching a video the audio would randomly stop. In that case. recover windows installation. After windows 10 clean install, havent had that happened to me again. Every now and again i`d get a sort of distorted sound when watching amovie wich i guess was the culprit to the sound faillure in the first place. So, i`m thinking Asus drivers, dont install them. Make a clean install and let windows 10 decide.

So ! when you either do a full re-install or rollback of drivers, you need to do the drivers in order or win10 should do it for you.

OEM Prefered order for 1,2,3

1 - Chipset Driver
2 - Audio Driver
3 - Graphics Driver
4 - USB Drivers
5 - LAN Drivers (if needed)
6 - Other Drivers
