So because windows 10 is shit as hell, I have tried everything possible to get my sound working. I have just upgraded to win10 from win7 the other day, and have had no sound at all. I have tried installing the Realtek sound drivers for windows 10 from my motherboard website, restarting computer and it doesn't come up in device manager at all.
The only thing that comes up is 'NVIDIA High Definition audio'. I have tried uninstalling the high definition audio, disabling it, disabling windows updates, everything and still Realtek isn't coming up in the device manager or the sound playback tab. It says its installed in the programs and features in control panel but not even the speakers are coming up in the sound playback tab. need help :(

Solution
No, it's not codeD chip. it's CODEC (COderDECoder) chip , it's function is to process computer native Digital sound to Analog sound speakers and headphones work with. If there is embed sound in MB or sound card, it has to have one of those. Realtek is not only one like that so you need a driver appropriate to CODEC (sound) chip that is present on particular computer.
'NVIDIA High Definition audio" is digital only sound to be used thru video card and HDMI output and has nothing to do with analog output at the back or front of computer.
Visiting site of MB manufacturer can tell you which sound chip you have.

Sorry I meant codec* aha, I will try visiting the website. So It's probably an issue of Windows 10 not supporting such an old soundcard?
