What exactly is a recovery partition and how can i delete it? will it cause any problems with the starting up of windows 10? this drive appeared out of nowhere after installing windows 10... i need to delete it to increase the volume of my C drive but in disk management tool this recovery drive is in between the unallocated space and the C drive

EDIT: if there is a way to go around the recovery partition and increase the volume of C drive without deleting the it, do mention it.

Hi I just did mine last night on Windows 7 home edition I had the same problem I only had 3gig left on my C drive so needed more space I found http://www.easeus.com/partition-manager/epm-free.html All I did was merge C drive into Recovery click ok...
What is the capacity of your drive? Is this drive different from a separate drive where you store your files?

Hard Drives are cheap and hard to fill unless you are trying. The recovery partition is put in place by OEMs to return your software back to factory state. You generally want to leave this alone unless you are an advance user.

You can use a third party partition program such as EaseUS Partition Master or you can download the Windows 10 ISO for a USB or DVD install.

Note that either of these solutions will take time and you have to potential of destroying system files. You should have any files you want to save backed up before trying either solution.

If you decide to reinstall Windows 10 from a USB stick or DVD then you simply need to delete all partitions when you get to the installation screen. Once all partitions are deleted then you can create a large single partition. Format the new partition and install Windows on it.

My guess is you haven't done this before and so it may take you a few hours to days to figure out if you are willing to learn.

I have an extra 11Gig on my C drive with a separate Recovery drive and you can delete that too if you want, no problems this morning works wonders, I didn't worry too much about the freezing up earlier because I was ready to do a fresh install but now I have extra room I will leave it till i get Windows 10 and looking around that too has the same problem with the recovery drive, good luck.
