Hello,

I bought a new ultraportable PC/netbook (ASUS E202S) which comes with preinstalled Windows 10.
Unfortunately I have come to discover that some of my work-related programs which I had hoped to install on this new computer are not compatible with Windows 10. Some need Windows XP, while others require dual-boot (linux-based software) and so I am blocked by the Secure Boot Settings. (Disabling Secure boot in the UEFI does not resolve the problem).

Windows 7 worked well for me. I am not a fan of windows 10. I can get win 7 pro for free from work. It's a new laptop and I do not have anything installed on it yet so clean install would not be very time consuming.

My questions:
Is it a bad idea to just replace the pre-installed Windows 10 and clean install with Windows 7 Pro?

What about all the factory settings for the ASUS laptop like function key stuff? would i lose all that? do i need it? should i do a backup and hope I can recover if I lose some important functionality?

By installing win 7 would this dual-boot / Linux issue resolve?

thanks

Hi,

Actually i'm not also a fan of Windows 10 but yes you can install Windows 7 in your laptop. The only problem are the drivers, you may need to use a 3rd party driver finder to install all of them or you can just get them 1 at a time from the manufacturer site of each device. Asus don't have any driver available which is for Windows 7 unfortunately. 🙁 Based from the devices in your laptop it's more on Intel Chipsets.

Once you've installed Windows 7 you can use this link below from Intel in downloading the drivers.

OK. Seems a bit annoying to have to do all that and the risk that some driver will not work.

Does someone out there know if by clean installing Win 7, I will also overcome this SecureBoot issue or is that separate from what windows is installed and more a firmware/bios issue that comes with the laptop itself?

If I cannot reboot into the linux-based system then it might not be worth the hassle to downgrade to win 7 for now.
