windows 10 update how to change hard drive

Hi im trying to install windows 10 updates but windows wont let me it keeps trying to go to my drive that has no space and wont let me choose otherwise. any suggestions? thanks in advance.

back up all your data from your c: drive.
get a usb drive (at least 8GB).
go to this site https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10
run it and prepare your usb.
restart your computer.
press f8 to manually select your usb as your boot drive. or f2/del and go to boot menu and select there.
install to wipe all data.
done.

is there a way to just change the place the update installs to? without reinstalling w10?

i dont think thats possible but not advisable even if it. i would rather expand that system partition C: and merge it with F: (if they are from the same HDD). you can use easus partition master to do that for you. can you also show us your disk manager (press winkey+xk) so we can see how you partitioned them? 26GB is too small. at least 50GB should do. you are really cutting it close.

Windows updates must be installed on the same drive where Windows is installed.

i see that now lol thats why i was looking to download it else where didnt know that wasn't possible and was hopping to not have to reinstall windows

you can use EaseUS partition master or Minitool Partition Wizard to merge C: and F:. they are both free and make your job easier in managing your disks on top of windows disk management capabilities.

Where is your OS installed?
On the 120GB drive Disk 0?
Or the 1TB drive, Disk 1?

Either way...that is NotRight.

On Disk 0, presumably a 120GB SSD?

1. The C partition where your OS probably is
- shouldn't be called System Reserved (how did that happen?)
- Shouldn't be only 26.2GB (that's where your OS update issue is coming from. That is TooSmall)

2. The 1TB:
The System Reserved partition should actually be on the SSD
It should not have a drive letter D.


If a friend came to me with this system config, I'd wipe it and start over. That config is completely wrong.

he just needs more space for his windows without reinstalling. so merging his C partition with F is the only solution hell need i guess. and all renaming/merging the other partitions rofl.

Do this new install with only the SSD connected.
