So I have just upgraded my PC build and I am trying to install windows 10 from a USB boot onto the new motherboard.

I have used the windows 10 tool to do this from the website https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. I open the BIOS settings and the USB is set as first in the boot order and Storage boot control set to UEFI, when i save and it loads I can select 32 or 64 bit windows, it loads files BUT then it freezes once my motherboard logo shows (presumably before going futher into setup?) I've tried leaving this to see if it's working on something but it stays frozen there

Motherboard: Gigabyte Auros Pro z390
CPU: i7 9700k

I have my old SSD connected to install windows on after boot but this is set as 2nd in the boot order. I've tried various bits of advice but I can't find a solution.

I can provide details of rest of the build if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like the Windows installer is booting OK but then finds a problem with the hardware.

If you have any other drives attached as well as the SSD try again with them disconnected. Also if the SSD still has the original Windows installation see if that will boot and run. Finally you could download one of the Live Linux versions which run from a USB stick and see if that runs OK on the new hardware. If it does the problem could be the disk drive.

I am (pretty) sure there are no other drives connected. I have tried with with SSD connected and disconnected and tried booting with only the SSD but that doesn't give me the option of windows install.

Is Linux Live a seperate operating system to windows? as I was hoping to just use W10 as my operating system.

Another option I am considering is formatting and wiping clean my old SSD? Files on there may be interfering with the boot process from the USB?
