hello im having a terrible issue: my old windows 7 computer is currently downloading windows 10 (i can see the $Windows.~BT in the C drive getting bigger and bigger), but my computer isn't and it's midnight in like 3 hours. i urgently need a fix for this as terrifyingly it looks as if i may not get the update as soon as its released (im assuming it gets released at midnight, but maybe even 1 hour before as we're in daylight saving time!!!!).

it has downloaded on every single one of my friends pcs but not mine. what the hell is going on, its almost like i have a virus that stops windows 10 downloading, but ive got avast so its probably not that. i dont know what it is.

also i had the install.exe in sources folder. i ran it but got an error. then i ran installprep.exe and it deleted 65mb of files. so now the $Windows.~BT folder is only 10mb instead of 75mb. to compare the one on my windows 7 pc is 5.4gb and increasing as its downloading (microsoft obviously lied "about 3gb")

if anyones able to help id be grateful, thanks!

Solution
Oh noes, you might have to wait a day or two for windows 10.
Don't stress, they said it would be a staggered release, just wait for it.

MS is actually on Pacific time because Redmond, Washington is on the west coast. (Washington is a state, Washington D.C. (district of columbia) is a city/thing where the capital is)

Patience!!!

The existence of that particular folder is NOT a direct indication of anything happening.
On my test box, Win 10 reserved and all, that folder exists. The creation date on it is 5/31/2012 !

Correction, I just checked again...Modified date of today, 5.14GB
(and you can't know the actual 'size' until it is done. That extra may be some temp files...who knows.

Don't mess with it, don't run anything in it...leave it. Not everyone will get their Windows 10 tonight, or tomorrow, or even next week.
They are upgrading a potential billion devices. Not everyone gets to be first.

EDIT: and now the folder size has gone down to 3.66GB and rising.

its out on 29th but downloads before then, im in the UK.

does anyone here not have it? because it seems that I'M THE ONLY ONE THAT DOESN'T HAVE IT. you can check just show hidden files then go to C: drive look for $Windows.~BT right click that properties if its a few GB or its slowly increasing then you've got it/downloading it.

i just checked and my laptop doesn't have it either, however every single other person ive spoke to has it. just my main desktop and laptop that dont have it. but my old computer does have it. and i reserved mine on my main desktop before my old desktop. so doesnt make sense at all also i heard the "rolling out in waves" thing that if you had the icon in your taskbar you were confirmed to be on the first wave. so why isnt anything happening 🙁

hopefully my pc downloads it later. im gonna leave it on overnight.

Now y'all have me going, ok, time to check that folder. :)

But it has to be a staggered rollout; they can't download everything to everyone. So if they're staging the individual installs, that might be in keeping with that overall strategy.

One more day, then everyone starts going crazy with waiting. :) 2-3 more days and we get the first big "ACK!" messages when something doesn't work right. :) :)

1 of my 4 systems is apparently downloading it.
The other three are not.

And everyone (mostly) had that icon. Means nothing as to who gets it 'first'.

Solution
i already have that folder since i am on the insider program

so already running build 10240

but even so i am uncertain as to how my version becomes a "full" version that i can clean boot with guess by tomorrow

more will be known about all the questions that arent clear about answers yet

The other thing that may be crippled is my ability to do anything on the net. I have 3 separate PCs signed up, 2 of which were done at largely the same time. NOT that I expect to get anything tomorrow, but we shall see.
