Well besides that, there another great feature of Windows 11 that I really enjoy and it's Windows Explorer Non Compact View.

You can also set it back to the compact view option like it was default in Windows 10, the cool thing about that is that as a user you get the choice witch you prefer.

clearing windows error reporting is counter productive if you actually do have a problem as then there is no way to see what is happening, and work out a fix.

its another reason I don't like ccleaner.

Oh don't get me wrong I still let the windows error reporter report such critical errors to Microsoft, but afterward I clear out the history with: Reset_Reliability_Monitor.bat
Then I can see how many consecutive days I get without errors, sometime when problems that got reported get solved then the timeline can really stretch.

Yes I don't like or would not use ccleaner either.

Hi!

So, you guys experience random errors periodically?

I guess I’m lucky, because on my Z390 system Win11 works flawlessly.

Yeah the fault that I periodically get is something to do with AMD software application host or something or other, but it doesn't seem to impact my system other that it being reported as a critical error without any subsequent effects.

Great to hear of other members' flawless setup.
Well done.

It’s just a reskin of 10 with mandatory TPM 2.0 and Teams built in.

it’s good, and I’ll be using it from now on, but it’s nothing different from 10 really.

The UI looks nicer but some of the choices seem like they’re just trying to look more Mac-like rather than improve anything. A lot of the menus are hidden now for no real reason I can see.

the reason for it seems to be to force people on to TPM 2.0 to try and weaken trojans and viruses.

I run a small project studio where do I do a lot with multimedia files. Video editing with Vegas pro, audio production with Reaper with lots of VST plugins, and I have a decent high end rig over all. Ryzen 3950x on a Gigabyet Xtreme X570 board, 2080Ti, 32GB of ram, 3 of the 2 TB M.2 SSD's and several standard HDDs.

I won't lie, I was terrified to install Windows 11. And like any OS upgrade, I don't like the whole "upgrade" process, I go for the fresh install. I must say, there are a few little quirks I noticed so far with simple tasks like drag and drop from one folder to another when copying files and what not, but overall, I can not really say anything bad about my Windows 11 experience so far. I rolled it out onto my Asus ROG Strix II Laptop as well, and no real issues there yet either.

I have all sorts of hardware I use. Capture cards, ASIO audio interfaces, several camera devices.. I have not had any horror stories to share with 11. I like it a lot so far. As much as M$ drops that ball at times, this seems tobe a fairly solid OS out of the gate. With future updates, it can only get better.... hopefully anyways!

Yeah,
It’s also due to the fact that Intel is “married” to Microsoft 😄

Man!
Your setup and use cases are similar to mine!
Intel - Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master.
3TB NVMe storage.
I use a Focusrite audio interface (with ASIO driver).
I use FL Studio, Propellerhead Reason, VSTs, Vegas and I even Reaper!

I also, can’t say bad things about Win11.

its just so much like its windows and meant to just be a platform to do things on, not be there to entertain you... whats the difference between in and 10 besides looks?

What is the one must have feature? this is coming from someone who has used it for a few months now.

I can' think of any I use every day..
Guess if I had a hdr monitor I might have one to use... most new things for laptop users, not so much desktop.
Installing linux in Windows Terminal is interesting if you know how to use it, just something more to learn otherwise... and why?

Maybe its cause I have used it 3 months and the glow of the new OS has worn off and I wonder what is the difference between it and 10? For every person saying its faster there are others saying it makes games suck. I didn't notice that much of a difference. Small latency spike that has since been fixed with new drivers. Nothing major. slight hiccup.

I don't think what I mentioned above about the Comact and non compact view in windows explorer was something that I had ever noticed in windows 10, besides that it's a really cool feature and makes content in windows explorer look very interesting in list view.

I'd say that is one of the must have features of Windows 11.

That is new, non compact is better for touch displays, I generally use compact which is closer to what 10 had.

Many of my changes work against me noticing I am on 11. like moving start menu and using compact view.

I like the compact right side bar
I like the way calendar shows now
I like multi desktop remembers wallpapers, I just have to remember to swap occasionally.
I wish they found a way to make right click desktop menu not need the show more options menu

I did not like it at 1st, but then I grew accustomed to it being like that in Windows 11, I know one can just use some registry fix to make it like it was in Win 10, but in this case I don't think that a change to the right click menu is necessary anymore.

there isn't much to complain about really

Yes, indeed I can second that, now I feel kind of bored, but then again witch is better: bogged by issues and then having to troubleshoot and find solutions all the time, or not having issues at all.

All the more time to browse the web and more free time to play games, whilst running a rock solid OS.

I think the answer is obvious. No problems.
I spend most of my time trying to fix other peoples problems, I don't need them myself.
I do seem to have something wrong but it only happens randomly once a week or so, and it doesn't show as an event so not sure how to solve it - random latency spike. Much of the time latency is audio drivers so I could update those. It does seem to only happen when i watch videos so could be sound or Ethernet.

Just had windows update, download and over write my display driver, the whole thing still worked seemingly but some menus where missing, so I manually reinstalled latest stand alone display driver package, seems good again now, and windows update did not over write again.

That’s weird!
I mean, it never happened to me.
Did you install Win11 clean, or was it an upgrade from Win10?

No, not an upgrade, Clean install of Windows 11 64Bit Home Edition. (including format and repartitioning of drive)

But I think I know what had lead to this update error, Had one windows update that could not get itself installed, had an error on this one for a few days then I manually said go ahead with the update and then right after that was done, had to restart to apply it, windows update blockage was relieved and then something to do with AMD Display or other came through, My guess is that that was the exact update that over-written my AMD display driver witch I had manually installed prior, and to solve the whole matter just had to clean install the driver package again and selecting factory reset and don't keep settings. during the install and all was 100% again.

Looking at the update history, I can still see it and still don't know why this would download and install if I had an up-to-date stand alone package installed.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - Display - 30.0.13023.1012 Windows update. (this is it)

And the AMD driver package I had installed is : radeon-software-adrenalin-2020-21.10.2-win10-win11-64bit-oct25.

To my knowledge I already had the latest WHQL set of drivers, and that windows update only over-writes your current driver if they are very much out of date, like months or years, not a few weeks... regardless windows update should not do such a thing. (it's not an windows 11 isolated error because I have seen something similar happen on windows 10 too, but only if drivers installed are very much out of date)

Now I have one pc with a clean install of Windows 11 64bit home, and a second pc with an full upgrade from Windows 10 64bit home >>> Windows 11 64bit home.

It's all going great so far, updates are coming through and everything is working smooth.

One thing i sometimes miss from windows 10 is the ability to create toolbars on the taskbar. I don't like icons on my desktop so I used to make a Desktop toolbar and only show its label on my task bar.
but I have no way to see what they are now without unhiding them, so I just ignore they exist.

rsKHV2i.jpg

My desktop shows what I classify as essentials. temps of CPU & avg effective clock.

I see you are not using the Taskbar corner overflow enabled either, I personally find that having all visible is best for me.

Now the dev's just need to figure out how to make the apps that have been added and then later uninstalled not show up in this menu anymore.

I have 32gb of ram and I don't find their burden on my 3600xt that bad at startup really.
Currently hidden -
  1. HWINFO is needed for the icons to show in the task bar
  2. Bitdefender as I don't use defender
  3. Malwarebytes Premium
  4. Onedrive
  5. Icue - runs AIO, RAM & KB (rgb and settings)
  6. Bluetooth (for headphones)
  7. Steelseries for my mouse
  8. Add/Remove hardware (one day I might remove my 3tb hdd just to see what windows does - should fix that feature in bios)
  9. Windows Security center
  10. Nvidia Geforce Experience.
  11. Discord
  12. Battlenet - Guess I don't need this really.
I had Samsung Magician but its really not needed
HD Sentinel is technically in that area but it lives on task bar to show NVME temps.

I probably don't need all of them but unlike Steam which wants to update games on startup, these are mostly painless.
Nvme loads everything so fast I hardly notice I have so many.
