So recently I've been considering picking up Windows 10 after I've heard they massively upgraded the OS during it's lifespan. I initially abandoned the free upgrade due to it's incompatibility with a lot of games at the time, it's bad RAM allocation assumptions, and various bugs and performance issues.

But now here we are, and i'm still using Windows 7 over 10 yet I'm considering upgrading. What I'd like to know is, what're the performance and personal use differences between the two OS? Is it worth purchasing the upgrade? And on a side note, is it possible to replicate the Windows 7 layout for areas such as task manager or windows explorer? My hardware should be more than enough to handle the upgrade, so I have faith there.

Solution
I can't give you a performance comparison, as I haven't run the proper benchmarks to do so. I did recently switch from Windows 7 to Windows 10 though. Mostly for features. It handles multiple monitors better than Windows 7, and has better screen management features, multiple desktops, and it is the new modern thing. I wouldn't consider it an improvement over Windows 7 in every way, but enough of one to make me want to upgrade. It is also similar enough to Windows 7 that you can learn how to work with it fairly easily too.

For the Windows Explorer, you could probably find a third-party software to do that. The Windows Explorer isn't all that heavily changed though. The few major changes that have been made, like the options at the top...

The few major changes that have been made, like the options at the top of file explorer windows, I have found helpful. Some of the other stuff like the icons in the Start menu can be disabled or removed if you wish to simplify the look.

For the Task Manager, the biggest change is that the main view is the "Processes" tab. That is better for force closing stalled applications anyway, so really you don't lose anything.

Solution
firstly. hi IInuy, win7 boot times are much faster.
listen, todays cpu and mobo upgrades are NOT win7 compatible. ryzen and kabylake/coffeelake are not compatible, .
fine, stay with win7. but no upgrades for you.
win7 stops at skylake.

I'm running Windows 7 on my Kaby Lake i7 just fine, you just need to find the modded drivers. Once you install them Windows 7 works great.
