If build 7100 is the official RC build, we're getting screwed over. The beta and RC builds have now forked. The latest beta build is 7077, and the latest RC build is 7106 or 7107. I'm running 7106 on my test laptop right now, and it's NOT a fake. I imagine the official RC release build will be higher than 7107.

Newsflash:

If you downloaded Windows 7 RC from your favorite Russian or Chinese site last week, it was probably a fake.

[citation][nom]neiroatopelcc[/nom]But the industry didn't force you to go to windows 95 - dos applications kept being made until mid 98 at least. Anyway, xp maintainance will only last a few years now, so you'll probably have to switch to windows 7 even before windows 8 is released - or to a beta of that perhaps.[/citation]

You never know. XP will have updates 'til 2014 and MS has been cranking out OS's lately. It will probably depend on if 7 sucks or not. If it does we'll see 8 soon, otherwise we'll have 7 for a looong time.

No, build 7106 is legitimate, and I did not get it from Russia or China. The Windows 7 builds have been forked. Please get your facts straight:

If they really are going to make the official RC release build 7100, then that means there are already later builds leaked out. I suppose they had to pick a point to release an RC build to testing, and more builds come along before the official RC build actually gets released to the public.

The part that really bugs me is that it only took them a few short months to get from beta to RC, and now they're saying it won't reach RTM until early next year. That's an awful long time between RC and RTM, especially when they claim there's only going to be one RC release. It already works so well, I suspect that we might actually see this released in time for the holidays this year.

Ive done some research and now think 7106 is actually a fake. its build cate is 09/04/08. the official RC's build date is 09/04/21. Is it really possible 7106 to be older than 7100?

The image has been leaked. There are some concerns that it's a fake leak because cversion differs from the MS blog but I've confirmed with a source that it is legit:

Yes, 7106 is older than 7100. As I now understand it, the 70xx builds are post-beta, leading up to the RC build, which is build 7100. Build numbers 7105 and higher are the new forked development line. Those builds include new changes/fixes that will be in the RTM release, but were considered to risky to implement due to stability concerns in the official RC build.
