It's my first time dealing with an ethernet cable, and my Windows 7 build isn't recognizing that it's plugged into both the router and the computer. I don't have access to the modem because it's part of my school's choices, and I don't really know what to do at this point.

Moving the cable had no response, and switching cables just shows that they both can access internet on a different computer. And as for the LAN port, I believe it's enabled, and if it isn't I don't know how to enable it, but the computer doesn't recognize any internet at all if only the cable's in

Dumb question of course but... is the link led on the network port on? if not, well... no connection or network is disabled on computer.

you can check the network connections in: Control Panel -> network and sharing center -> change adapter settings (disabled network cards say disabled and they are greyed out.)
