home premium does NOT support XP compatibility.

They will try to sell one new upgrade to professional/ultimate.

Agreed. I used to pirate windows but it became such a pain over the years with XP. You can't upgrade it, can't install service packs, can't use windows update. At least, the version I had couldn't do those without the infamous "Windows is not genuine" message.

Don't have to worry about any of that crap with a legit copy and as you say, thousands of hours of usage for $50 is great. Compare that to a FPS game that gives you 10-15 hours of play for $50.

I really wish to HELL that when Microsoft sells you new licenses to legalize the OS for extra machines that they would have offered this option IN ADDITION to the single license purchase - I'd have gone this route.

[citation][nom]COLGeek[/nom]This does represent a good deal in terms of avoided costs if you were going to upgrade/install anyway, but it is still very expensive software. If MS wanted to move more products, they would lower the cost for all flavors of Win 7. Full blown Ultimate should cost no more than $69.99US, with the prices for "lesser versions" tiered downward from there. The Starter and Home Basic versions should be free.[/citation]
That is some serious nonsense you just spat out there...

[citation][nom]Anomalyx[/nom]$150 for 3 (making it $50 per), or $120 for one? Unlike most, my first reaction isn't "wow that's a good deal for 3", but rather it's "wow that's a ripoff for one". $50 isn't unreasonable to ask. I think that should be the standard price for an OS. $120 is just overboard.[/citation]
You think that what you suggest for a price should be the standard price for an OS??? A free OS already exists so now you can establish that AN OS exists that is $0. OR did you mean that you want an OS that acts like Windows and that bears the name "Windows" to be essentially [legally] free???

Hey, I want a Ferrari, can you suggest to me your "reasonable" price because I think $200,000+ is too much...BUT I WANT IT AND I'M ENTITLED TO IT!!!!

So ridiculous...

This is more akin to spending a huge amount of monies on a Ferrari only to have to pay yet another large fee for having a key that would enable you to actually use the device it starts.
Most people just go along with it and figure it's well worth it (which it is!)... others will whine that they already have spent a large amount of monies the hardware they own yet need to pay yet another large fee to actually be able to use it (which is annoying!)

If I owned a Ferrari, I would feel pretty dang entitled to actually being able to drive it.

I bought two of these family packs before and they are a very good deal. It comes with not only the 32 bit but also the 64 bit versions.

[citation][nom]husker[/nom]Yes, and it is fortunate for you that they do.[/citation]

Yeah people are some real cheapskates. Windows Xp lasted almost 10 years. $150-200 for 10 years and people are complaining?? I bought an OEM of Win 7 HP 64-bit and I think it was the best investment. The OS is the real deal! Seriously people, spending $100 for the OS that is going to last over 5 years is not a big deal. I'm actually more pissed about how much they charge for the Office Suite. A standard Office suite is double the OS?

[citation][nom]Humans think[/nom]Many families have more than 3 PCs that need upgrading, they should go for a 5X family upgrade pack.Students at universities: undergraduate to PhD students please check if your institution supports MSDNAA, I got Windows 7 Pro for free along with Microsoft Visual Studio.[/citation]
Welcome to the club mate! 😀
