my configuration is :
windows 7 64bit
4 gb ram
2 tb hardisk
intel core 2 duo 2.93 ghz processor
zotac nvidia gt630 4gb ddr3 gpu

very often, the pc hangs up in between and nothing happens. the display is there but everything hangs up and nothing is operational, not even the mouse cursor is movable..my cpu usage generally lies between 1 - 5 % and also the physical ram is free ~3gb ..
so can anybody explain me the fault..like why does it happen?

Solution
You ran seatools and it reports all is well with the HDD? If not, I will repeat that suggestion - could be the hard drive's cache or tracking or...
I might suggest a possible driver conflict but in most cases I've seen, conflicts tend to be resource hogs but that isn't a given so that may also be something to look at... hmmm
