So, I have custom made a dell vostro 430 with a dell inspiron 3847 case. I put windows 10 on a flash drive from the website and put it on a 160gb hdd. I used the windows 7 pro sticker on the top of the case just experimenting to see if it would work. And it actually worked! I would like to know why. It shouldn’t work like that right? Thank you for your time, have a nice day

No, it should not have worked. Microsoft already did the FREE UPGRADE offer on launch of Windows 10 to encourage TRANSFER of the W7 license to W10.

(though Microsoft seems a bit loose with their own rules)

Be CAREFUL though, if you have transferred the license from W7 to W10 now then your W7 system would likely be no longer ACTIVATED (no license) thus may impose restrictions after (30 days?).

If you boot back into W7 you should get some sort of warning though (just guessing) though I'd go into (System->About?) wherever it tells you the status of your Activation and see if it's still valid.

Also go into W10's page to see if it's truly Active now or not if you're sticking with that installation.
