I finally got my computer built and I began to install windows 7. I got it to the screen that brings up the checklist of things left for it to do (Copy windows files, expanding windows files, installing features, installing updates, and completing installation). However, last night when i tried it, it froze up at 60% when it was expanding windows files. My second attempt just now only got to 0% of expaning windows files. I dont know why it keeps stopping/freezing. Also I've noticed none of my perphrials work once the install stops. Does anyone know of any reason why this is happening or what i can do to fix it?

Thanks

Is this OEM CD a new copy or old one.??

If this is older copy all ready been used on another system it might not work properly.

Yes. Make sure to run Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are any known issues that might affect the installation and whether you can install the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7.

Down the road if that pc goes bad, motherboard etc, can the OEM be reinstalled on another pc?

No. But you can replace the motherboard in the same PC.

OEM Computer Limitations

According to Microsoft an OEM version of Windows is tied to the first computer it's installed on and you can not be installed on a different computer. Even if the computer OEM Windows was installed on is no longer being used you can't transfer the OEM license to a different computer.

Difference Between a Full/Retail License and an OEM/System Builder License.
OEM licenses of Windows:
1) Are bound to the first computer installed on and are not transferable (can't be moved to a different computer).
2) Can not do an in place upgrade from older versions of Windows, only a clean/fresh install is possible.
3) Offer no free support from Microsoft.

You are better off on buying a full copy of windows 7.

(Side note)I never liked OEM OS be cause of this issue.

But hope this helps you.

Hi
Is this a Windows 7 DVD ?
or a bootable USB stick made with Microsoft tool?

If USB do not use usb 3.0 port

If a DVD check it is readable. Possibly copy all files to temp folder on hard drive.
(though this does not check DVD drive in new PC)

Check your ram using memtest86

check hard drive is 100% working
Is it brand new?
since you have another PC available if a desktop put new drive in desktop and test with Western Digital data lifeguard for Windows (even if not WD)

If a laptop use a USB to SATA tray to test hard drive

Alternative to removing hard drive is to download Hirens boot CD (Iso image) which is bootable and has WD DLG diagnostic software as well as versons for Seagate, Samsung etc

Check your ram using memtest86 (also on Hirens boot CD) or version on Windows 7 DVD

most likely problem is reading the Win 7 DVD
[ DVD disk or drive problem?]

Im completely new to any of this and have no idea what you are talking about. how do i use other programs on a computer that doesnt even have an os on it?

Hi

use another PC to create a bootable CD or DVD or USB with diagnostic software on it

if you download Hirens boot CD you get a file with extension ISO
(similar name to Hirens_152.iso)

programs such as IMGBURN or ISOWorkshop can burn iso image onto a CD-r (or DVD-r)

If you want to build a PC then you need to study these things or have help from friends who do understand
