Windows 7 "problem" is annoying me!!!

Well, I'm already using the RTM version of Windows 7, and this is the issue...

Sometimes it happens that when I'm trying to delete some folder on C:, I get the message that I can't do it, because I need an administrator permission to do it, and I just can't delete anything! And also, after I finish the download of something on firefox and internet explorer, I get the message that the download couldn't be finished because I must have some kind of permission to do this action!!!


I doesn't make any sense at all, since I'm the only user of this PC, and my account has administrator permission!

I know, I could configure all the folders to grant access permission to me, but it shouldn't be necessary!

Anyone know what's the matter??

You can right click the folder and take ownership.

Or you can configure UAC to not ask you any more. Just type the word 'Access' in the search box, and it'll be one of your choices.

When User Account Control (UAC) is enabled, your account runs without any of the administrator privileges enabled. That's a good thing because it means any malicious software doesn't have the ability to install itself on your system.

You can disable UAC by using "Start", search for "UAC", change UAC settings, and moving the slider all the way down to the bottom - that will eliminate all the messages at the cost of leaving your system more vulnerable to viruses.

I disabled UAC a long time ago!


And well... I know I can right click the folder and take the ownership, but it shouldn't be necessary! Am I right?

Yeah, you are right... because I have UAC running at default settings and have no issues like those you describe. What folders are you trying to delete and what folders are you attempting to save your downloads to?

An administrative account doesn't grant you blanket privileges to ALL files, just to files that have an Access Control List which grants permissions to Administrators. For example, if you create nonprivileged users on your computer, the user folder gets permissions which normally restrict access to that user only.

So the question is: what files are you trying to delete and what are the permissions on the files? What account created them and owns them? Either (a) the account that created them isn't the Administrative account, or (b) the folder that they were created in has a set of default permissions which deny administrative access.

Let me explain... This problem only happens sometimes! For example... I uninstalled Limewire, and then I tried to delete the program folder (wich had only one file inside), and I got this message and couldn't do it! Then I just restarted my PC I was able to do so! So obviously, my own account created it!

About the downloads... I save all my downloads on the desktop, and sometimes I get these messages when the downloads is concluded!

if the problem is only happening with limewire stuff, I would have to assume you are downloading copyrighted files

Maybe you could try enabling the default level of UAC on Win 7? What I did find in Win 7 is that when it needs admin privileges instead of the UAC alert you get a nice simple Yes/No alert that automatically provides admin rights to the action when you click Yes/Proceed.

Nooooo... The problem has nothing to do with Limewire (and the file that I tried to delete was the unistaller program), because it already happened with other files and programs!

Mmmm... I could try this UAC thing... But I hate it though.... =/

I have uac at the default levelsl the only time it comes up is when I install something or on occasion when I open an old file it says I need rights. If it says I need rights I say ok open file and it never comes up again

It seems that your administrator account is not the most privileged one. You may want to look at the Administrator Account Unlocker. It says it is for Vista, but it worked for me on Windows 7.

I'm having the same problems with my windows 7. Im trying to delete avast from C:/program files and i get the same error message. I'm the only user on this computer and im set as the administrator. I disabled my UAC and set all my permission to allow full control of the folder/subfolders and files and i still get the same error message. Its basically telling me i needed permission from myself. I'm the only user on this computer and im the administrator with full permission but somehow it says i need permission from myself. i dont get it.

I also opened the administrative command prompt(right click run as administrator) and entered:

Net user administrator /active:yes

for extra measure and that didn't work either.
