Windows 7 product key for activation

Hi-

I'm using an hp 6735b laptop that was upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It has been asking for a product key every time the laptop is turned on. I recently tried to activate it, but it took a while because the product key label is worn in certain places, so I wrote down what the ambiguous letters/numbers could be, and I tried all the possible combinations, and none of them were accepted. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks and God bless.

Where did you get the product code from? If you got it from a reputable source try contacting [strike]Windows[/strike] Microsoft, otherwise you may have [strike]struck[/strike] lucked out 🙁

It's printed on a label, on the bottom of the laptop. "Proof of License Certification of Authenticity."

Are you trying to use a Vista product key to activate Windows 7? If so, that won't work.

Exactly, you will have to buy a new windows 7 product key then.

Isnt the license key on the label that of vista ? Who upgraded the OS ?
If it was done by your manufacturer contact them for support.

The Product Key & Licence underneath your laptop is only valid for the OS that the laptop originally shipped with (ie the factory pre- installed Windows Vista).

Save that money & put it towards a new laptop instead.

Ubuntu , mint , fedora , kubuntu etc etc etc are waiting for you if you don't want to spend money on getting a new license for your old PC

It must have been within the past 3 years or so, I don't know. I can ask my brother when he gets home this afternoon, and tell you then.
