I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit SP1. Was using Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit and now i came to know that SP1 or later upgrades suffers from the disease called Svchost high memory usage. I did tried to resolve it as Microsoft stated but that didn't worked. I did disabled the windows update manually and through services.msc but that's not a permanent solution either! All i want to know is that why does it occurs ? What if i install Windows 7 Ultimate SP2 or Windows 8 ? (I would like to stick with Windows 7) Help me out Geeks!

Solution
being a fresh new install its more then likely running things as like said above on windows updates - you could go to task manager - processes - find the scvhost you see running high - right click on it - go to services and see whats running under it [in services it should be all high lighted in blue] and look up whats shows as a needed service or whatever ...

I don't see any reason to install that update the guy above suggested ?? all that is for is to trick you into windows 10 ?? unless that's what you want to do ?? if not don't download or install any upgrade to 10 updates offered to you [theres about 6 or 10 windows 10 updates to be declined and hide ]

never auto update - set windows updater to settings -check for updates but let me decide to download and install them-

that way you can review each one to see if it wanted or needed first or needs to be declined and hide ..

Without KB3112343 freshly installed Win7 Sp1 can't do any windows updates.
When you launch windows update, process svchost starts using lot of CPU resources and consumes more that 1GB of ram. Windows update stays in such state for hours without any progress.

That KB3112343 resolves all this.

So you can install this update or turn off windows update altogether. Choice is yours.

When did you install your win7 ?
That crap with broken windows update for fresh installs started somewhere around december last year.
If you installed prior to that, then you propably already had necessary updates.
