Windows 7 to Windows XP networking problem

Hi again everyone,

My network consists of 3 computers, 2 are running Windows XP Pro and the last is running Windows 7 pro. Recently (I only noticed it today but it may have been like this for a while), I noticed that I couldn't see the XP machines under Network in explorer. I've tried pinging the two machines but the request times out.
From the XP machines, the windows 7 machine is visible in My Network Places, can be accessed (read and write) and pinged. I've checked that all of them are in the same workgroup; I've tried disabling IPv6 on the Windows 7 machine as was suggested on another forum; made sure that network discovery, and file and printer discovery are all on; turned off password protected sharing and none of those have rectified the problem. Any ideas?
Also, I've noticed that Public Folder Sharing is off on the Windows 7 machine but oddly enough, it doesn't affect any of the machines except for itself. When Public Folder Sharing is off, the 7 machine can't access it's own shared folders but the XP machines can.
The Windows 7 machine and one of the XP machines are connected to the router via wireless and the other XP machine is connected via cable. Not sure if this helps any.

Thanks,
Brendon

I'm sorry the sticky hasn't helped -- it may seem a little complicated. The fact is the sticky was written after I expressly raised the issue with fellow Moderators originally because I had mystery problems connecting Win 7 and XP machines.

The 7 machine could see the XP but not vice versa. And we were receiving regular posts such as yours.

I think you may have misread (or haven't read at all) my post. I'm not having connection issues. The XP machines can see my windows 7 machine without a problem. The windows 7 machine can't seem to see them. It has to be something on the W7 machine because nothing has changed with the XP machines and they used to show up in the Networking section in explorer. I have tried disabling firewall and anti-virus but still couldn't see the XP machines from the W7 one.

I know this may come across as silly but I work in a building with several computers and basically 5 of them are windows 7 and the other 14 are windows XP all of them are professional and I haven't run into this issue at all. I would start off by asking you if you have manually assigned their IP's or had them automatically assigned. I would recommend you manually set all of them and change your modem/routers sub-net range on purpose not for any actual reason other than up until I changed all the stuff in our offices sub-net mask from the default 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.252.0 or any other non-default subnet mask my windows 7 computers had similar issues although they seemed to be on again off again type issues and I really wasn't ever able to figure out what was causing it. Then obviously just check and make sure to set the IP ranges the same I'm assuming though since your on a small network IP ranges won't or at least shouldn't be anything other than the standard 192.168.xxx.0-xxx IP ranges

I'd also try creating a domain or work-group again rather than your current and see if that clears anything up or not don't know if any of this will or won't help you but I figured it's worth a shot to at least mention some of the issues I've personally had with windows 7 and windows xp computers not working the way they should with each other when dealing with a domain that we have at the company I work for. Although I am aware domains are much more complicated than work-groups you still never really know or at least I don't lol...

My question is: is there a possibility that when installing win7 over Xp that the drivers get confused? I know that when I installed 2000 over 98, I had more problems that I knew how to handle. Just a thought
