Hello,

I've encountered huge problem during SP1 install for Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate). CBS.log checked, I've also tried any tips found on forums around world. None worked.

In CBS.log there are errors encountered concerning missing packages:

Microsoft-Windows-ServerCore-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385
Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385

Error: CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE -> 0x800f0805.

I believe that the 1st one is scanned by default (ServerCore concerns Win2008, am I right?), second of them - truly concerns Win7.

Inspection so far:

1) I've checked the contents of C:\Windows\servicing\Packages, copied the files from another machine (also Win7 x64 Ultimate) - packages: Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385.mum and Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385.cat. Unfortunatelly - nothing changed. Still cannot install SP1.

2) I've also copied file Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385.cat, which originally was found in c:\Windows\system32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}. Again nothing changed. Still cannot install SP1.

3) sfc /scannow shows no errors. System Update Readiness Tool also found nothing.

4) I've tried to install SP1 through windows update, also from ISO image (offline package).

5) curious fact is, that by running command dism /online /get-features I get strange manifest:

Image Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Package function list : Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7601.17514

Fact is, that Image version is different than Package version. I doubt it is normal, is it?

6) as a tip - laptop had the system preinstalled (Home Premium version), I've upgraded it to Ultimate through Anytime Upgrade.

Any help would be much appreciated, after n-days of trials - I've had enough. Because of the fact, that I did not receive any DVD with Windows 7 by default - full reinstall is not an option.

Below is CBS.log attached.

Solution
I would download a legal Ultimate x64 SP1 image from HERE and do a clean reinstall. This is the official Digital River downloadable image authorized by Microsoft, although you must already have a key of course, which should be on the label on your computer. MS only did this with Windows 7 and AFAIK you can no longer buy keys from Digital River, as MS has moved on to pushing Win 8.
