I recently built my first gaming PC but did not purchase a Windows software key because I was planning on deactivating the Windows 8.1 key on my rarely used laptop. (My laptop came pre-installed with Windows 8.1 and was then upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade). I looked up ways to un-install the Windows key and most of the time found a code to use in command prompt (slmgr /dlv), I tried this method and got a notification to say the key had been successfully un-installed. I then tried to use the old 8.1 key on my new PC which has Windows 10 installed and it showed up as invalid. I contacted Microsoft and they told me I would have to downgrade my computer to 8.1, use the key, then upgrade to Windows 10 again but before my chat ended with the assistant from Microsoft I was informed that my key was still invalid even for Windows 8.1 and that I would have to contact the manufacturer of my laptop (Lenovo) to resolve this problem, so I did. All I got back was an email telling me to use the one key recovery on my laptop but don't understand how this will help since the key is showing as invalid, I have already un-installed it and I need to be able to use it on my new computer rather than my old laptop.
So basically, is there anyway I can get the old Windows 8.1 key to work on my new PC?
I would rather not turn to useless support team members from Microsoft and Lenovo as they haven't really helped much and don't think they actually understand the problem so I am here hoping someone can give me a solution to this problem.
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
