Windows 8.1 problem...

So I'm on windows 8.1 after a lot of trouble with 10... and for some reason it doesn't use my gpu and shows Microsoft basic display adapter... I tried installing the drivers and uninstalling the device, but it only causes the screen to go black after restarting, and then needing a refresh which deletes the drivers. Please help, this is seriously annoying and I've been stuck on this for a whole day.

What kind of GPU do you have?

I have a GTX 760. Whenever I restart my pc it goes to a black screen. When I go to devices in device manager, and go to adapter displays, it shows the 760 but I can't download the drivers and when I restart it does what I said and goes to black screen with everything running or goes to repair and I have to refresh.

Are you using the drivers provided from the CD or the latest one from Nvidia.
You might want to unplug the Ethernet cable during driver installation to prevent windows from searching new drivers.
