Windows 8.1 Screensaver Not Working

This is not a very uncommon issue with Windows 8/Windows 8.1. Many people are facing the same problem but rest assured that the problem is not that big.

The issue with the screensaver and other relevant problems such as power saver options, indexed search results, etc. is caused by Windows update 2756872. If your copy Windows 8/Windows 8.1 is configured to automatically update itself (which is always recommended), probably the Windows update 2756872 has been installed on your computer without coming into your knowledge.

In order to make your Windows 8/Windows 8.1 screensaver function again, all you need to do is to uninstall the above Windows update, and install its upper version.

Since removing an update from Windows 8/Windows 8.1 is an administrative task, you must be logged on to the computer using an administrator account.

Here is how you can remove any installed Windows update from your Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer:

Note: Since Windows update 2756872 is not installed on the demonstration system used in this tutorial, the steps below would explain how you can uninstall any update by uninstalling any installed update.

    ■Log on to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer with administrator account.
    ■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
    ■Once on the desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
    ■From the displayed Charms bar, click Settings.

    ■From the Settings pane that appears in the right, click Control Panel.

    ■On the opened Control Panel window, click Uninstall a program option under the Programs category.

    ■On the opened Programs and Features window, from the left pane, click View installed updates.

    ■On the Installed Updates window, from the displayed list, right-click the 2756872 Windows update.
    ■From the displayed context menu, click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the target Windows update.

10. After uninstalling, go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update.

11. On the Windows Update window, click Check for updates to enforce Windows 8/ Windows 8.1 to look for most recent available Windows updates.

12. Once the update check is complete, click the link representing the optional or important updates and search for the Windows update 2756872
13. Once found, right-click the 2756872 click Hide update.

14. Once done, click the back button (button with the left arrow on the top).
15. Back on the Windows Update window, click Install to install all the other updates on Windows 8/Windows 8.1.
16. After the Windows updates are successfully installed, restart the computer and then try using the screensaver.
17. The issue should be resolved by now.
